I'm assuming you're chain vaping and it's not just after one or two hits?
What cells are you using? 145w from two batteries is a massive drain on even the best cells. That kind of load will heat the battery as well as the tank, lho will spread that heat around the entire mod.

If it's heating up within a few hits then there is a short and you should stop using it immediately. If it's heating up over a period of constant (this could be 60secs of 6sec hits) use then calm it down a little, lower wattage with less frequent hits.
It is heating up extremely quickly, after about 3-4 hits, i have just contacted the vendor i got the mod from as he is my next door neighbor.

That's super convenient! I'd switch out the mod. I still stand by my original post that 145W is high.....
what would you suggest I run the mod at? the coil is is for 130-190 suggested.

If it's raving hot after three his from cold there's a hard short, a situation that can turn ugly fast!
As the others mentioned, try the mod with differnt cells, still the same it's the mod at fault, stays cool it's the original cells at fault. Don't do this experiment any longer than necessary, purposely heating a lithium cell is a very bad idea!

Don't forget to apply for the freecycle section!
