Decent SS wire?
Looking to pick up some SS for temp control experimentation. Does this look like it will work?

http://www.amazon.com/Beadalon-Gauge-Art...less+steel

I'm planning a dual twist and triple twist like I do with the 26g A1. There's one review stating it works well for vaping but I want to get you expert's opinions before I do any buying...

RE: Decent SS wire?
As I remember, the issue with stainless steel is that it's resistance doesn't vary as much with temperature as some other wires. Steam Engine has values for 304SS

RE: Decent SS wire?
The one you've listed is 304.. it vapes OK, I don't mind it at all. Things to know are, it leeches a little because its got a good measure of nickle in it and gives a metallic taste after a week or so of use. You don't notice because you've been using it but your pals who haven't will notice straight away. A triple twist of 26g 3mm 5wraps will be ~.12 so it's a single coil jobbo

RE: Decent SS wire?
Seems like SS wire is hard to find in the US... makes a change since it's normally the UK folks who can never acquire stuff Tongue

I found some here... http://www.evcigarettes.com/stainless-steel-316l-resistance-wire-by-ud

RE: Decent SS wire?
My goal isn't necessarily SS, but with the off-gassing issues of nickel and the difficulty of work-ability of Ti, I just want the safest wire that is the easiest to handle. So, that in mind...

RE: Decent SS wire?
I'd be looking for this then,  thougj I can't convert the measurements from 0.030 to awg. If you scout around the welding supplies scene you'll find what you want really cheaply!

* just re read your first post, oops.. 317 for tc and even then it's not great. Tc sucks until there is some control improvement in devices

RE: Decent SS wire?
1.6mm is 14 gauge

0.035" is about 19 gauge - still pretty thick. It is about 1.2 ohms per metre so a single coil of 0.12 ohms is about 3.9" of wire.

RE: Decent SS wire?
Don't buy flux cored wire!!!!

That would be a really bad idea to use for vaping.
