80+ vg spitting issue
hey guys,

it seems that i've been having a bit of a problem with my tanks spitting different juices. and making the back of my mouth feel like i'm drinking chemicals.i mainly use 85 and 95 vg base juices and usually vape simply, a brand out of ohio. i usually never have a spitting issue with these juices except for maybe occasionally when the coil is on its way out. i've been trying other types of juices all claiming to be above 80 vg, the lowest i can comfortably vape is 78vg. and only use desert/cereals. any info on maybe what's going on? i vape an ipv3 Li and switch between the aspire cleito, smok super tank mini (most use) and smok baby beast. always between 45-60w depending on if i buy .2 or .4ohm coils. been vaping about a year and only really started having this issue recently, i have gotten bad batches of juice but that can't be it because the first half of the bottle vapes just fine. i buy 60ml or 120ml bottles at only 3mg nicotine.

Did you shake them before use? Contents can settle and separate.

RE: 80+ vg spitting issue
Hi Drew - welcome to the forum. I am surprised that factory coils can cope with juice of around 80% VG it is really too thick to be absorbed by this type of coil. High VG juice is really restricted to RDA's. Is there any reason why you cannot use juice of 60% VG - that is really the highest VG for factory coils. The spitting could be caused by the coil not absorbing the juice quick enough and getting hot spots within the coil that suddenly hit juice and it kind of 'explodes' because the coil is too hot. How long are your coils lasting - this could tell us a lot about  how they are coping with the high VG.

RE: 80+ vg spitting issue
thank you, this the first forum i've joined! when i use anything lower than an 80vg it seems to really kill my throat. makes it have a burning scratchy feeling, even at 70/30, people have told me and i've read that the pg is the culprit. i've even been told in shops the exact opposite of what you were saying.(scam to get me to buy more coils?) my coils topically last about 2 weeks sometimes less. i've noticed it more with .4ohms coils opposed to the .2ohms that i usually use. do you suggest an RTA? i hate dripping but don't mind builds, i'm an electrician so it's in and out of my pocket all day and i use these tanks so i don't have any leaking issues. my favorite is tenacious toast by simply and is said to be 85+ also jekyll that is said to be 95+
also, my girlfriend uses the same super tank mini with the same juice as me, she seems to not have a problem but she does not vape heavily, or take long drags for clouds, i do because i was a smoker she wasn't.

Hi Drew - I think a RTA would be perfect for you - there are lots of good ones around now and a lot of folks here use them - no doubt they will be along shortly and give you some advice on them - you have joined a great forum for information and help - you will find it in abundance here - enjoy your vape - to most of us here it has become a hobby - we have some great coil builders here too - stick around and enjoy the fun as well.

RE: 80+ vg spitting issue
Hey drew.

I agree with ecignut, 80+ is thick juice and will wick poorly. It can clog up your coil quickly causing spitting, bad flavour and premature coil failure in most cases. As to why you've only just experienced this problem I'm not sure.
At 80+vg I wouldn't expect your coils to last much more than a week tbh.
Rta's are great, set up right a good number of them can handle 80vg with no problems, though you will need to rewick quite often to keep it fresh. Good thing is it costs very little indeed compared to factory built coil heads.

Don't forget to apply for the freecycle section!

You need a RTA to vape high VG juice comfortably. No doubt of that. And you need the right coil and the right wicking material as well. And you will be rewicking fairly often. I use high VG juice always. I don't use sub-ohm tanks ever. Just RTAs and RDAs and with Ko Gen Do cotton as a rule with thick juice. Although Native Wicks works well also. It is not about the watts. Many of my devices are set below 30 watts. Its about how you wick the coil.

RE: 80+ vg spitting issue
Welcome to TVF Drew.

Other members have already spoken of the high VG content, I'd suggest a lower VG ejuice. As a simple test I would purchase an ejuice off the clearance rack from your local shop with a much lower VG ratio - test it out and if no spitback, you'll know for certain that it's the ejuice.

RE: 80+ vg spitting issue
thanks guys, i will definitely try out an RTA and post feedback on it. i have a few local shops that stock pretty frequently, i do occasionally use an rta and use kanthal 22g at around .2-.5ohms with cotton bacon. i don't prefer it but when i use it i have little to no spit back.
