18650 explosion
battery safety is perhaps the most important aspect of vape . this video demonstrates an intentional explosion . DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME !!!

Hi Chuck - Don is the guy to tell us all about exploding batteries - no doubt he will reply to this. I totally agree with you - these batteries have to be treated with a great deal of respect they are not like the ones in toys and razors etc.

Battery explosion should be taken seriously.

Here's another YT video showing a 'controlled' explosion of an Ultrafire 18650.

RE: 18650 explosion
Hi and welcome LVR!

Mostly, at worst cells "vent with flame" rather than kaboom. It's easy enough to force a kaboom - 200A from a stick welder will do it every time Smile

Just do it outdoors and downwind - the fumes are extremely nasty. And include a special prize of hot hydrofluoric acid.

RE: 18650 explosion
I've had a 26650 vent with flame on me. Fortunately it wasn't in my hand at the time as I was opening the door to get the cell outside when it popped.

I think it had hard shorted in a mech mod.

RE: 18650 explosion
Battery safety is one of the most overlooked things in the vape community. Improper use, and even more the lack of knowledge on purchasing the correct batteries. I hope it get better before it gets worse.

RE: 18650 explosion
It's one thing that the individual needs to be responsible for. I understand the tendency to treat an 18650 the same as a AA is treated, but it's not an excuse for an individual to blame the hobby on their own negligence or lack of knowledge.

If you've ever shorted a NiMH AA in your pocket you'll find out that they need respect too - burnt a hole in my pocket. And made a nasty blister on my thigh.
